Coffee costs more thanks to the climate crisis

The climate crisis is hitting us coffee fans in the wallet.

The price of coffee (amongst other food crops) is on the rise due to the climate crisis:

The highest price rises were for cocoa and coffee, up 163% and 103% respectively, due to a combination of higher than average rainfall and temperatures in producing regions, according to the research.

Charles Arthur doesn’t think this will put coffee shops out of business:

The rising cost of coffee probably won’t put coffee shops out of business – other costs are far bigger factors – but they might have to raise them marginally, and people may notice that.

I’ll tell you where this does hurt, though: if you brew your own coffee. The price of speciality beans is notably up on this time last year.

It’s still way cheaper than going to a coffee shop — a bag of coffee is about three of four coffee shop coffees in price — but I’m feeling the pinch.
